چکیده

In recent years, it has been reported that several existing networks represented by the Internet have scale-free structure. In this paper, through simulation experiments, we investigate the effect of the scale-free structure of communication networks on the end-to-end performance of TCP flows. As a network topology, a random network and a scale-free network with the equal number of nodes and the equal number of links are used. We compare the end-to-end performance of TCP flows (i.e., throughput, round-trip time, and packet loss rate) in a random network and a scale-free network. Consequently, we show that the scale-free structure of a network has positive effect on the round-trip time of TCP flows regardless of the number of nodes and the average degree of a network. We also show that the scale-free structure of a network has negative effect on the throughput and the packet loss rate of TCP flows when the average degree of a network is small.

Sensitivity Analysis of the Effect of Pore Structure and Geometry on Petrophysical and Electrical Properties of Tight Media: Random Network Modeling

Several methodologies published in the literature can be used to construct realistic pore networks for simple rocks, whereas in complex pore geometry formations, as formed in tight reservoirs, such a construction still remains a challenge. A basic understanding of pore structure and topology is essential to overcome the challenges associated with the pore scale modeling of tight porous media. A...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...

Fluid-Based Analysis for Understanding TCP Performance on Scale-Free Structure

Scale-free structure is one of the most notable properties of the Internet as a complex network. Many researchers have investigated the end-to-end performance (e.g., throughput, packet loss probability, and round-trip time between source/destination nodes) of TCP congestion control mechanisms, but the impact of the scale-free structure on the TCP performance has not been fully understood. In th...

A new virtual leader-following consensus protocol to internal and string stability analysis of longitudinal platoon of vehicles with generic network topology under communication and parasitic delays

In this paper, a new virtual leader following consensus protocol is introduced to perform the internal and string stability analysis of longitudinal platoon of vehicles under generic network topology. In all previous studies on multi-agent systems with generic network topology, the control parameters are strictly dependent on eigenvalues of network matrices (adjacency or Laplacian). Since some ...

A Novel Caching Strategy in Video-on-Demand (VoD) Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Networks Based on Complex Network Theory

The popularity of video-on-demand (VoD) streaming has grown dramatically over the World Wide Web. Most users in VoD P2P networks have to wait a long time in order to access their requesting videos. Therefore, reducing waiting time to access videos is the main challenge for VoD P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for caching video based on peers' priority and video's popula...
